Post Graduate Diploma in HIV Medicine Programme PGDHIVM

School of Health Sciences, IGNOU in collaboration with NACO has developed a one year Post Graduate Diploma in HIV Medicine for MBBS doctors. This programme is being offered through distance mode having 28 days contact session for hands-on skills training in the Medical College and 30 days training in the ART Centres. The programme is being offered through 3 PSCs namely B J Medical College, Ahmedabad; Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi and School of Tropical Medicine, Kolkata which are successfully conducting the Programme since 2012.The Programme is not for registration of additional qualification by MCI.

Objectives:

After completion of this programme, a student should be able to:
1. Imbibe comprehensive knowledge on basics of HIV as related to details of management of HIV/AIDS in tertiary care set up.
2. Manage all complications as well as opportunistic infections due to HIV/AIDS at the time of need and
3. Recognize and handle emergencies related to HIV/AIDS and its complication and take bedside decision for management whenever required.

Eligibility: MBBS Degree recognized by Medical Council of India (MCI)

Medium of Instruction: English

Duration: Minimum 1 year and Maximum 3 years; offered only in January cycle of admissions

Fee Structure: Rs. 60,000/- for full programme

Sponsorship: There is a provision of sponsorship of candidates by NACO. About 40 candidates are sponsored every year for whom the admission fee is paid by NACO, in addition, to leave for the duration of hands-on-skill training. The candidates identified by NACO have to fill up the common form and apply before the last date of application.

Porgramme Implementation

The students will be compulsorily required to attend contact sessions of 28 days in 4 divided spells (6+6+10+6 Days). After the 3rd spell, the non-sponsored candidates will also have to undergo additional training of 28 days in a Skill Development Centre (one of the ART Centre allotted by NACO) for being eligible to do the 4th spell.
